After all, Bush is responsible for the misdeeds of his troops in Iraq, and when they are convicted of crimes, he too is guilty. 9. Some U.S. troops have admitted they followed a policy of deliberately killing Iraqi civilians. We'll have a new link to articles about this in the near future to help readers follow specific instances in which the knowing and willful killing of innocent civilians took place with the killers (or is it murderers?) enjoying impunity. The U.S. military has admittedly either refused to investigate the vast majority of alleged crimes committed by its soldiers in both Iraq and Afghanistan or has dismissed most cases before they ever had a fair hearing in a military court. Only a small number out of hundreds of possible cases, mostly those involving misdeeds at Abu Ghraib prison, have been prosecuted to their completion, and most of those have resulted in guilty verdicts with punishments ranging from fines up to 10 years in prison. The cases that have been prosecuted so far appear to comprise a small number of scapegoats and sacrificial lambs deemed necessary by the Bush administration to offer as palliatives to the outraged and to prevent charges from climbing up the ladder of responsibility all the way to the White House. The message is, "We punished the guilty parties, the soldiers in the field who committed crimes, brought them to justice, and that's the end of it." The question is, will American society allow the Bush administration to get away with that? We must work to make sure the answer to that question is a loud, resounding, "No!" 10. Follow issues that likely involve criminality by U.S. leaders such as the use of cluster bombs and depleted uranium munitions in Iraq and Afghanistan; and the two extremely deadly U.S. attacks against the city of Fallujah, Iraq each of which involved deliberate destruction of hospitals and the killing of innocent civilians in violation of international war crimes and humanitarian law. (Links will soon be provided on this website to information about these issues as well.) Remember, there's no statute of limitations on the kinds of crimes we're discussing here. Cases can be brought against Bush and every involved member of administration right up to the day they die; and this should happen, particularly in view of Karl Rove's statement about how history will view the Bush presidency. When asked about how historians will view the Bush administration, Rove indicated that he didn't care about history's verdict, because he and Bush will be in nursing homes by the time historians judge them. And in the meantime, they'll have accomplished what they wanted to do. We can only hope that good legal cases are built against Bush and the officials in his administration before they're bedridden by old age. However, no matter what their ages, those who truly value rule of law will never waive efforts to prosecute them. 11. Finally, for more information on Bush's war crimes, consult the following:
